Powerful Application Programming Interface (API) Included with FeatureCAM® Version 9 

Salt Lake City, UT - FeatureCAM Version 9, manufactured by Engineering Geometry Systems (EGS) and scheduled for release in June, includes a powerful Application Programming Interface (API). The API gives users the ability to make their own programming enhancements to FeatureCAM. They can customize FeatureCAM products to meet their specific requirements and preferences.

FeatureCAM Version 9 and the new API will be demonstrated in EGS' Booth D-3045 at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago, Illinois, September 4-11.

With the new API, customers can tailor FeatureCAM to match the way they work and think about part programming. Even those without programming experience have discovered that they can use the API to improve their part programming. The API includes a complete integrated development environment (IDE) that contains elements common to those who have customized Microsoft Office®* products using Visual Basic for Applications®*. FeatureCAM also comes with examples that can be used as is, or can be used as a launching point for developing other enhancements.

One example of how customers can use the API to save time is by indentifying specific entities for new part documents. This automates tasks that a customer may previously be repeating each time they begin a new part. For instance, a simple macro can be written to automatically create specific CAD layers that a customer commonly uses. It is then set to invoke every time a new part is created. More advanced capabilities are also provided with the API. There are limitless possibilities of how FeatureCAM's API can be used to customize and enhance part programming.
